About Us

Pedagogy

Here at the City of Faith Christian School, we believe that students learn best when trust is fostered between the teacher and the student, coupled with an understanding of the student’s individual learning style and motivation. For this reason, we structure our program by providing open-ended problems that require and cultivate concept building and self-directedness.

All students are given equal opportunity to learn and grow. Attention is given to multiple intelligence strategies that will accommodate each student’s learning style. A rich variety of manipulative and informational resources are made available to our students so that they can explore and construct their own knowledge.

The supportive environment here at City of Faith Christian School encourages our students to feel loved and accepted. We also rely on an effective partnership forged between the school, parents and professionals in the field, to facilitate a smooth flow of information and remain abreast with current trends in education.

The basic instructional approach to learning will be that of individualized instruction. Individualized instruction is the process of providing each student with the most appropriate learning task at a given point in time and with a given set of available resources. Other modes of instruction will be used (small groups and lecture) as the teacher determines them to be appropriate.

History

“A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, touches a heart and shapes the future.”

The desire for quality Christian Education was planted into the heart of the Director, Bishop Dr. Courton A. Reid, a certified NY State Teacher and a Minister of religion. His passion for teaching, love for children and his firm belief that a young mind is an excellent place to sow the good seed of God’s truth, motivated him to start a Christ-centered learning environment for children ages 3-6 years old. Thus, the inception of City of Faith Christian Academy, a ministry of the City of Faith Church of God. This school opened its doors in the summer of 1996 with seven students and one teacher. A combination of a nursery class and kindergarten class existed then. By the end of the first year, the enrollment increased to nine students. Two years later, in 1998, we were thrilled and grateful to God for allowing us to have our first graduation exercise. Two students graduated. This marked the beginning of growth, advancement and great possibilities for City of Faith Christian Academy.  In 1996, we had the capacity for only 16 students but due to the number of inquiries, prospective students and an ever-expanding vision, the classrooms were extended and licensing capacity was granted to accommodate 29 students. Later, after much prayer, professional consultations, manual labor, monetary gifts and loans, the adjoining building at 3445 White Plains Road was converted into classrooms.

Currently, we operate as City of Faith Christian School – Pre K to 5th grade licensed by the City and State. Our hours of operation are from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. We also operate an exciting six week summer session. This school continues to grow and by the grace of God, we are looking forward to greater things. These include increased play areas, additional classrooms and parking spaces. Thank God you are a part of this vision.

Mission

The purpose of City of Faith Christian School is to provide a sound academic education integrated with a Christian view of God and a world view based on the authoritative and inerrant word of God. This educational program is designed for children, PreK to 5th Grade, whose parents and guardians are committed to personal faith in Jesus Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords.

Our Vision

The vision of City of Faith Christian School is to be a genuine Christian community, unified by

our common faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that salvation is a way of life. This is reflected in

our school community. Together, we will strive to motivate and equip each student to succeed in

whatever path the Lord directs. Our desire is to see our students impact their world by fulfilling

their God ordained purpose.

City of Faith Christian School seeks:

Non-Discriminatory Policy

City of Faith Christian School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, scholarships and loan programs and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Statement of Faith

The educational philosophy of City of Faith Christian School is based on a God-centered view that all truth is God’s truth and that the Bible is the inspired and only infallible authoritative word, which contains his truth. God created all things and sustains all things; therefore the universe and man are dynamically related to God and have the purpose of glorifying Him.

Because man is a sinner by nature and choice, he cannot glorify or know God by himself. He can only do this by choosing God’s free gift of salvation through his son Jesus Christ, thereby committing his life to the lordship of Jesus Christ.

Philosophy

Our aim to provide a Christ-centered perspective on the total world view from which we come; a

well-rounded person having a proper understanding of and acceptance of his or her role in life, at

home, at work, at play and at worship. All sphere of life totally grounded in the Christian concept

of love. This philosophy channels our energies to promote high academic standards while

helping our students to achieve skills and creative thinking using the best integrated curriculum

available.
